about jazzy grazz
Jassy Grazz is a 6-piece outfit hailing out of Northern Indiana that has been performing all throughout the Midwest Region for years now. Since their formation, there has been some shuffling within the lineup. The current lineup has without a doubt deemed to be the most solid and consistent since 2006 though. Jassy Grazz is: Nick DePalma (Guitar, Vocals), Nick Mullins (Guitar Vocals), Ian Hansen (Bass, Vocals), Randy Wagers (Drums, Percussion), Anna Campbell (Saxophone, Vocals), Ryan Brock (Keys).
Musically, the entire band has diverse musical tastes and backgrounds that ranges from rock/fusion/funk/reggae/metal. Although JG has the ability to incorporate an encyclopedia of musical styles, they maintain a strong sense of identity they can call their own at the same time. 2005 saw the first official live release from the band titled ‘Neckbreaka’. Neckbreaka showcased the percussive and Coltrane laced track ‘Wookiee Boogie’, as well as the popular techno-funk set closer ‘Proby’. It is apparent throughout ‘Neckbreaka’ that James Brown was on rotation at JG’s outdoor barbecues at the time.
JG has performed at numerous festivals alongside several national acts. Sharing bills with such acts as Les Claypool, Galactic, MOE., Keller Williams, Umphrey’s McGee, Karl Denson and several other notables have provided JG with the opportunity to perform in front of festival sized audiences on several occasions. They have also played host to Victor Wooten’s F.U.N.K. Fest in 2005 and in 06’.
2008 highlights Jassy Grazz’s first studio release with the current lineup, titled ‘Upstroke.’ This album showcases a mature release by the group. ‘Upstroke’ features more structured efforts with lyrics that come from personal experiences within the band. Along with surreal imagery donning the cover, this is a thematical album that is continuous with no breaks throughout the entire listening experience. ‘Upstroke’ is further proof of continual growth within the band, which is evident upon listening.
JG lets their influences and sense of humor shine through by performing an array of cover songs. Audience goers on any given night may be treated to songs by Black Sabbath, The Police, Funkadelic, Ice Cube, Pink Floyd, The Roots, Nine Inch Nails, ZZ Top, Kool and the Gang, Van Halen, The Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder and last but not least Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
In 2008 Jassy Grazz continues their proud tradition as a great live act that brings fans of various musical styles together under a single roof…..
